A Trailblazing Ghanaian Film Producer Yemoh
Ike, born on November 5, 1986, is a Ghanaian film producer, talent manager, and co-founder of A.K.A Entertainment—a film production company based in Ghana. His remarkable journey began with humble roots, overcoming challenges to become a driving force in the global film industry.
Early Beginnings
Yemoh’s passion for acting led him to sneak out from campus during his school days to attend auditions. His innate logistical talent even saved a production on the day of shooting. The producer recognized his potential and convinced him to assist as a coordinator. Gradually, Yemoh shifted his focus from aspiring movie star to finding solace behind the camera.
From Coordinator to Producer
Yemoh started as a coordinator but quickly transitioned into film production. After completing his studies in marketing at G.I.A, he founded Next Media Concept—an agency that scouts and manages talent. His upbringing, marked by hard work (from selling chips to charcoal on the streets of Accra), taught him that success is carefully crafted through keen observation, adaptability, and understanding the changing demands of the industry.
Breaking Barriers
Yemoh’s groundbreaking achievement came with producing “Tsutsuɛ,” the first sub-Saharan African film nominated for the 75th Cannes Film Festival. His dedication to innovation and unlocking Ghanaian film potential led him to collaborate with Amartei Armar. Together, they challenged the notion that the Ghanaian film industry was dead. To Yemoh, it was yet to be born.
Global Recognition
Yemoh Ike’s accolades extend beyond Cannes and other A-List Festival nominations and wins. He is the only producer in Africa to win an Oscar Qualifying Festival
—the Montréal World Film Festival.
Additionally, he graduated from the Doha Film Institute Producers Lab and the European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs in 2023.
A.K.A Entertainment LTD
As a co-founder of A.K.A Entertainment Limited, Yemoh continues to shape the industry, bridging the gap between Ghanaian cinema and the global stage. Yemoh Ike’s journey exemplifies resilience, creativity, and a commitment to elevating African storytelling. His impact reverberates far beyond the screen, inspiring future generations of filmmakers.
